CENTRAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 331 Euclid Ave. Bristol, VA 276-669-3157
POSITION: NURSERY WORKER

PURPOSE: To provide a loving, safe, and nurturing environment for children during
scheduled church activities.

ACCOUNTABILITY: To the Christian Education Committee Chair and the Pastor(s)

RELATIONSHIPS: Works with and for the Christian Education Committee.

TIME: Primarily Wednesdays 5:30-7:15 p.m. during the school year, and on Sundays 8:45
a.m.-11:15 a.m. This person will also to be first asked for other church events and activities
needing a nursery staff.

Pay: $13/hour

REQUIREMENT: Background check (Paid for by church)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Creates a welcoming atmosphere for families that includes recording a child’s
presence in the sign-in book, providing adult family member with a beeper, and
greeting them with a friendly, smiling presence.

2. Maintains the safety of each child giving full attention to age appropriateness,

social activity in a given room, and physical well-being of every child.

3. Ensures that no child is left without adult supervision.

4. Ensures that corporal punishment in any form, such as slapping, hitting, or
pushing, is not permitted.

5. Ensures that abusive verbal discipline in the form of yelling, hurling insults, or
threats is not permitted.

6. Maintains cleanliness in the nurseries that includes wiping down all high chairs
used, wiping down tables used for snack/craft activity, cleaning all toys used by
children in the nursery, and emptying all trash.

7. Arrives promptly for duty by 8:45 a.m. for Sunday mornings and 5:30 p.m. on
Wednesday evenings for scheduled and approved church activities requiring
childcare. (There is dinner on Wednesdays at 5:30)

8. A request for vacation or required absence must be made in writing and placed in
Christian Education Session member’s mailbox or given directly a week in
advance.

9. Reports need for absence due to an illness or an emergency to the Program
Director or, in their absence, to the Chairperson of Christian Education. Any paid
Nursery worker must be fever free for 24 hours.

10. Maintains a professional appearance.

11. Maintains and keeps current CPR certification and first aid training.

EVALUATION: To be performed annually by the Christian Education Committee Chair and
Pastor(s) with assistance from the Administration/Staff Committee. The Administration/Staff
Committee will annually review salary terms.
